Best albums of 2009

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Usually when I set out to compile a list of my favorite albums of the year I already know who’s going to be on top. This year however the difficult task was not to find enough albums to fill a list of 25, but rather how they would rank. When I can’t even make out my absolute favorite there’s only one thing to do – listen once more – and then once more. If that doesn’t work? You might want to listen to that one again. Needless to say these albums have been played several times, which leads me to believe they’ll also stand the test of time. For the first time each and every one of them actually MEAN something to me, and I’m positive I won’t easily forget any of them. Like last year I bring you quotes from some reviews that said it all. Metric news

This was reposted in its original form during the launch of the new WordPress blog in October 2009. Original comments made to this post back in the day (if any) are reposted at the bottom.

Metric’s upcoming album “Fantasies” is now available for pre-order. It’s available in 4 different packages ranging from the big one with all the extra stuff to the simple digital download, more info here. I went for the “Hardcover Digipack + Digital Download” pack, which means in addition to the 3 track download I got today, I’ll be able to download the album on March 31st.

The 3 tracks that everyone pre-ordering gets is the album version of “Help I’m Alive”, an acoustic version of “Gimme Sympathy”, and a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Nobody Home” with Jimmy Shaw on piano + vocals.

At the same time Metric makes yet another song available for preview on their website + myspace. If “Help I’m Alive” and the newest “Gimme Sympathy” are any indication the album will be sublime. With all these acoustic versions popping up I’m only waiting for them to announce the release of an acoustic version of the entire album. Or maybe I’m just dreaming.
